The green creature had believed all of the points he had made to be good and solid, but Raven apparently thought otherwise, bringing up points that had to do with what could go wrong. While at the same time, she totally shot one of his major arguments right down. “What? You mean that’s a lie?!” blurting out that last question, the cat was seemingly shocked. It was enough to get him to jump up to his feet yet again, surprised eyes fixated on the girl positioned on the branch below. There was a comedic touch to his words, but whether or not Caleb had already known the truth about the whole ‘cats have nines lives’ thing was anyone’s guess.
“Yep,” he nodded at the next thing she said, that was indeed what he had done, tell her how to use her powers, while deciding for himself that he didn’t need to do anything about anyone else’s problems. So... what was wrong with that?
After that, the girl’s longwinded speech had managed to get a “Hrmm...” out of the red-eyed cat. Yeah, yeah, those options were... well, they were still being considered. However, doing anything that made a difference anywhere always served to cause a person to stand out. That, he was sure would be an unwise idea for himself. “I doubt anyone would want help from a guy like me... But at least you’ve got the idea of what a hero is down!” he smirked.
The bell around the cat’s neck jingled once again, his attention shifting curiously back to the girl, and then again between her and the sky. Until he finally just remained with his eyes fixed up at the sky as the girl had been doing. "Doesn't everybody?" Caleb felt that, in his case, he probably had more cause to feel lonely than a lot of other people might, but that wasn't to say his eyes didn't constantly witness lonely people walking the streets. Sometimes it was easy to see, and at other times it was harder to tell, each person experiencing his own level of loneliness.
Tilting his head slightly, the green cat beamed a smile at Raven. "I'm fine though, because I think I've made a human friend."

Raven had to raise an eyebrow at his exclaimed question, wondering if he was being serious or not. She had to let out a slight chuckle and shake her head a bit at his antics, not sure whether he really wanted her to respond in a serious manner or not. “If you really want to test if it's a lie you could go and get yourself killed, but I really don't suggest it, I would prefer you alive, after all,” she said as a bit of a morbid joke, shrugging it off nonchalantly. She really did not want him to try that at all, but he could not possibly have thought that was true, right? If he did at least now he might know better than to take his life for granted and not do something stupid because he thought he had more than one life to live.
When he confirmed what she said about him she had to stare at him for a moment. Should she have really expected more from him, after all she barely knew this talking cat. She was unsure of what she should have expected, but perhaps it was not quite that. In her mind it was a bit wrong to think that way, to tell someone to go do something but be so unwilling to try for yourself. Raven let out a sigh. “Sometimes the advice you really need to follow is your own,” she mumbled a bit, looking away from Caleb with a slight frown.
Raven really felt like slapping her palm against her forehead. It just seemed like he missed the whole point while trying to be cheerful in the end. “You never know until you try,” she said with a shrug, “of course, you have to want to try to begin with...” He just seemed so against the idea or trying to avoid it entirely. She really had to wonder what a cat had to worry about that would make him this resistant to the idea. The whole hero thing did seem a bit troublesome though, and where would one start in their endeavor for such a thing anyway? Now she felt like she was thinking hypocritically.
“I suppose,” she said quietly. There were a few people that she would walk by and feel their isolation at times. Feeling so many emotions from others, though, she just began to block them out when she moved through crowds. Raven started to ignore other people's needs and stopped feeling so sorry for the way they felt. She was becoming too accustomed to those feelings in others and just let them wander by without a care. Perhaps it was a little callous, but she could not help everyone or try to take everyone's pain away, it would just be too much of a burden to carry.
“Oh? So does that mean that if I'm in trouble you'll come help me out,” she asked with a smile as she looked over toward him, “that's what friends do, right?”

Yeah, if only Caleb could follow his own advice... But his actions were justified! Well, at least he believed them to be. In his own head, it all made sense, his reasons for doing, as well as his reasons for, well, not doing. Not that this girl would understand, even if he tried to explain himself... mainly due to the fact that it would make particularly no sense coming from a cat.
The green cat merely stared at Raven with a look of uncertainty as she continued to mumble and quietly speak her mind on things. No longer with another thought on what to say to her with regard to that aspect of their conversation. In truth, he didn’t want to argue with her about that topic any further, he had made his decision already and refused to back down. Stubborn in that way, it would be hard to get him to say or agree to anything remotely different to how he felt about it.
Almost surprising was how the teenage Raven had taken Beast Boy’s last comment, the main point being that she had not rejected his friendship. He wouldn’t go so far as to say that he had never had a friend before... although it was true... but, anyway...! “Of course! If you ever need it, I'll be there,” he answered the girl's question with a quickly executed wink, just before actually taking a moment to think about what he'd just said.
Er... Wait... was that a promise that he made just now?
On second thought, it might have been better had he not sounded so enthusiastic with his reply. Because... Caleb didn't exactly know how well he would do with honoring a promise such as that one just now. ...No worries though, right? The girl was capable of taking care of herself anyway.

She could tell he was being stubborn, she could sense it after all. Even so, she had figured she should at least try, but Raven knew her words were now falling on deaf ears. He was just too stubborn to really thing further on it anymore it seemed. Perhaps she was not getting all the facts, in fact she was starting to believe that more and more, but she could only try to help so much with what she was given. He did cheer her up after all, she felt as though she should at least try to pay him back. Still, if he was going to be that stubborn about it she would just sooner drop the subject.
At his words she had to smile a bit, not really having any friends ever since she had run away. Raven could admit that she had some in a way, not very close ones, but at least people her age to talk to sometimes. It really was not quite the same though since she always felt that she could not tell anyone about what she could do, and the fact that her father always told her not to as well. Of course, it just made her feel like she did not quite belong, just the other kids did not really know that so much. It was weird in a way, but it had been how she felt at the time.
After his words she could sense a bit of doubt coming to his mind, though she was uncertain as to why. “As long as you try your best, that's good enough,” she said with a small and gentle smile. Raven could not expect him to do more than he was able to after all, it would be asking too much of her new friend if she expected too much from him. Besides, it was probably just the reassurance that she needed anyway.
She felt her eyes close a bit as she just let her ears take in all the sounds and her skin feel the wind blowing against it as it rustled the leaves of the tree. It was a relaxing feeling and she enjoyed it greatly. “It's a nice night, isn't it?”

It was almost as if a calmness had swept over the area after their conversation had begun to die down. The cool breeze was gently rustling the leaves of the tree, creating the very quiet sound of a whistle as it blew passed the tree braches,
"I'd say so!" it was in admiration of the fine weather that the cat gave his response, happy to know that it would be perfectly fine just to sleep outside for the night. In fact, he would probably be dozing off right there on that branch, falling asleep in a mere matter of seconds were the girl not present,
The tail of the green creature hung low, off the branch as it swayed back and forth. "I like to sleep out here on nights like these, to be under the stars... Too bad though, the lights from the city really ruin the view," Caleb spoke in a somewhat quiet tone, barely paying attention to what he was saying as he stared upward at the sky.

Raven could feel her eyes growing a little heavier and heavier with every passing minute. By now it was probably getting pretty late into the evening. She was unsure how long she and Caleb had been talking for and she did not have a watch or anything to really tell her the time, but based on how sleepy she was feeling she could estimate that it was probably about the time she would just lay down and sleep for the night.
“Yeah, nights like these are great,” she said quietly as she watched the stars a bit, “it's quite a lovely sight though, even with the lights.. Or perhaps that's just because I grew up in a city..” Raven did not dwell on the thought for too long, her mind muddled a bit by sleepiness. Instead she just let the calm of the night relax her, knowing her friend Caleb was still around to be an extra set of ears and eyes in case something happened.
After a few more minutes of staring at the sky Raven felt her eyes finally close and slowly sleep overtook her. Her breathing evened out more as sleep claimed her, though she still looked quite stable in the tree which she sat, probably having done this before. Perhaps it was a good thing she did not make it a habit to move around in her sleep.

Sleep had taken the girl in the silence that followed, and the cat did not blame her for it. The position of the moon in the sky was clear enough indication of how late it had become. Quite a bit of time had indeed passed since Caleb had first encountered Raven in the tree.
Paws grazed the lower branch softly, glancing back at the human briefly before jumping out of the tree entirely, to the grass below. She would be fine there by herself. And he would be elsewhere, probably long gone. Neither he nor she had actual places to stay, but that didn't make him much more open to the idea of sharing the same tree for the night. Besides... the boy had made it so that Raven knew him only as a cat, albeit a talking one, but that would just make it all the more awkward if she discovered a green kid on a higher branch of the tree when she awakened...
Maybe he would see her around the city though, some time.
