Hawkgirl’s comment about Kid Flash not hearing the comments he gave was probably an accurate assessment of the situation, but Static hoped that some of what he had said got through to the young speedster. It would be very unfortunate if the young man found the helmet and was unable to relate a message to his hands to not put the thing on.
For all their sakes, Static hoped that the helmet was still out there instead of in the hand some villain who would try to use its power to take over the world or something. He wouldn’t mind if it ended up in the hands of someone who was halfway decent, but there was a small chance of that happening because of the fact that there had been an explosion. Most people would be avoiding the entire area knowing that it might be more dangerous for them.
His eyes drifted around to the other members of this ragtag team in order to assess whether any of them would be a viable host for the helmet. The flying girl probably had enough people in her head, so she wouldn’t be a likely choice. His mind had ruled out the speedster early on due to his disbelief in magic, which usually discouraged the helmet from picking them. This left the young Robin as a possible host as his age meant that he would have been selected years ago. “So how are you doing down there, Robin?”

Hawkgirl took to the air again for a time. She wasn't sure if that would help or hinder her search- on one hand, it was a small object they were looking for. On the other hand, it was gold and very shiny. She had to watch her flight path as carefully- her spread wings meant she took up more space than Static, and there were plenty of branches in the way. None of which she could see well- there was a reason she was called Hawkgirl rather than Owlgirl, after all. Her night vision wasn't much better than any normal human's.
Hawkgirl growled as she heard the older superhero refer to the girl as Robin. "Do you really think she's worthy of that name? There have been lots of Robins over the years. One of them went crazy. I believe the other two died. And all of them were older and with more potential than that child down there." Hawkgirl figured that the man was old enough to remember the original Justice League.
Of course, the part of Hawkgirl that was Erin wasn't sure she was worthy of the name Hawkgirl. Chay-Ara mentally told her to shut up and shook her head. She'd never had this personality problem before when reincarnating. The experience was getting old real fast.
Hawkgirl swooped down lower as her wings tore off another tree branch. Time to run on the ground like the youngsters.

Robin looked up upon hearing Static's voice. He asked her something about how she was doing. That seemed rather obvious to her. Everyone else could move so much faster than her with their flight and superspeed, and if they weren't moving so slowly, she easily would have been left behind by them. In any case, as for now, they were being patient.
"I'm fine!" she answered somewhat stubbornly. Perhaps it wouldn't have been the most heroic thing, but she wouldn't mind if Flash would just carry her or something. Then she wouldn't have quite felt like she was slowing everyone else down. She turned to Hawkgirl who had soon landed beside her. Luckily, she hadn't heard what Hawkgirl had said to Static.
"Did your wings get tired?" Robin teased her.

Hawkgirl glared at Robin. "Too much tree cover," she explained, her voice sharp. "And don't get smart with me, kid. As far as I'm concerned, you haven't won the right to wear that costume." She stalked off. After what had happened to Jason Blood, the girl would be doing herself a favor by deciding not to wear the costume.
I don't feel like I'm prepared to be a costume vigilante, either! Erin protested within her own head. And who is Jason Blood?
Hawkgirl walked on ahead, hoping someone hadn't already picked up the helmet.

Hawkgirl brought up an interesting point about whether this girl was worthy to hold the name of Robin, which anyone could have argued that the same rule could apply to her own name. There were those who would describe the history of the name Robin in the same manner as the title of Dr. Fate. If he wanted to, Static could also reflect on the history of those who held the title of Hawkgirl, but that was not the way he wanted to influence the next generation.
As tree limbs began to fall, Static noted that Hawkgirl had decided to walk instead of flying. It must be hard to have to worry about things like wings when flying, which is why he was glad that he didn’t need wings. He decided to lower himself down, so that he could continue to converse with the rest of the group that was still close by. He caught the last comment that was said between the two girls, which was not a very pleasant one.
He shook his head as the winged one walked ahead of them, and Static wondered if this type of response had been given to the Robins that came after the first one. “Don’t worry about her too much. I am sure that you will bring great honor to the name of Robin. Just like our speedy friend will bring honor to the name of Kid Flash.” Helping on this particular assignment was a start in the right direction.

"We'll see," Hawkgirl said doubtfully. The kid seemed so young. She glanced at Static, wondering where his confidence in Robin came from. Or was he just saying it to make Robin feel better? She realized that Static looked old enough to have been a member of the original Justice League, and wondered if perhaps she had known this man in her past life. Erin was constantly fighting her, Chay-Ara, and it was interfering with her ability to call upon her powers and memories to her full extent.
She was beginning to think they wouldn't be able to find the helmet tonight. The new speedster hadn't come back yet, and even her own enhanced vision required more illumination to see clearly. She could come back in the morning and search again...assuming some poor soul didn't find that helmet in the meantime.
Of course, that was assuming someone hadn't already taken it. It was entirely possible they were searching for something no longer in the area.
A glint of gold caused Hawkgirl to turn her head. She moved off toward some brush and moved it and dirt aside, revealing a golden helmet. She held up the helmet. "Looks like you can call the speedster back...Robin. Now to put it someplace safe. No offense, but I don't know any of you and I'm not sure I can trust you with this. I don't think either of you would abuse the helmet, but it needs to be someplace secure. Perhaps one of the old Justice League hideouts?" She muttered the question, thinking.
