In Metropolis, Gwen had precious few chances to become many marine mammals. What rivers and lakes there were around just didn't cut it for a lot water based animals she could become. Now she was approaching New York City though, she had taken to swimming down the river as a Bottlenosed Dolphin.
She enjoyed the feeling of freedom as she sped through the water, just swimming forward, up, down, every direction. It was the most fun she had in a while. Plus she was still in the process of coming to terms with the idea that the world wasn't everything she had been raised to believe it to be.
As much as it made her feel good though, she couldn't keep swimming forever and she had been swimming pretty far, pretty much as fast as she could go. She had reached New York Harbor though, home of one of New York City's most recognizable monuments, the Statue of Liberty.
As the water became more shallow, and difficult to swim on Stray shifted into the form of a German Shepherd dog, and half swam half walked the rest of the way to the small island. The moment she was on dry land, she collapsed on the concrete. Her legs felt like lead, and at the same time she was realizing how hungry she was. However, she was just too exhausted to really care. She instead, took to sunning herself, hoping to at least dry her fur, which was now soaking wet and feeling uncomfortable.

It was a sight not often seen, surprising the green-skinned boy in the very short span of time that it had taken the supposed dolphin to transform into a dog and finish the swim to shore, all of it ending once the creature’s body flopped onto the ground, utterly exhausted. “What the...” with eyes staring across the lengthy span of concrete between himself and the dog, Caleb simply could not help but feel... almost amazed.
A few steps were taken toward the dog creature, the odd-colored teenager closing the gap between himself and the other as he moved toward the german sheppard with curiosity. It appeared as though the teenager was in awe at the scene before him, a reaction displayed by his mouth hanging open slightly and the widening of his eyes. "Did you just...?" those were about all the words Caleb could manage to utter at that moment. There was no denying it, he had only caught a glimpse of the transformation from dolphin to dog, but he just knew. With this, there was simply no way he could possibly be mistaken... Had he not just witnessed his own ability in action??

Gwen probably should have been paying more attention to her surroundings, but she hadn't been breaching as she had approached the island, and most people's vision wouldn't allow them to see past the surface of the water too easily. All Gwen assumed would be seen was a tuckered out white dog who just swam across the river to the island. She hadn't been too crazy about being seen either. Most people were smart about approaching strange dogs. The worse she thought she'd have to worry about was animal control.
But nope. Her transformation clearly didn't go unseen, and she was indeed approached by someone. At first she only rolled back onto her belly, intending to get up and give the person a few intimidating barks to get him leave her alone, but then she caught sight of his green skin and she blinked in genuine surprise. There was only one thing she knew of that caused green skin, and that was the Sakuhita virus.
"Change from a dolphin to a dog?" She finished his awestruck question as she got up, and took a significant step away from the boy before shaking herself again to try and dry herself further and remove what dirt she had picked up from laying on the sidewalk, while attempting to avoid wetting the interesting newcomer. "Yeah, I did. You must have good eyes if you caught that." She answered, calmly observing the boy.
Gwen hadn't even thought that there would be other living humans with the Sakuhita virus. It was supposed to be a rare disease, and normally lethal unless a cure was given, and cures for the disease weren't exactly easy to come across, nor cheap. There was only one Sakuhita virus inflicted human in her dad's records on metahumans, and that was Beast Boy. This boy however, definitely wasn't him. Even if Beast Boy hadn't vanished with the rest of the original heroes 25 years ago, he was much older than this boy who looked no older than herself. The green skin was still a very good indicator though. "Being as green as you are, I am going to guess you are either a huge fan of Beast Boy, or have been inflicted by the Sakuhita virus yourself too."

It was obvious enough that the teenager was rather baffled, eyes glued to the strange dog-creature-...thing as she finished his sentence. Apparently it was of little concern to the other, what had been observed by a complete stranger, and why should it really matter anyway? Caleb was mainly glad to have been given a straight answer on it, otherwise it may have been more difficult for him to be certain that he had not just imagined the entire thing.
“Wow! You mean you seriously just... I mean, I wasn’t imagining things?!” the green-skinned boy crept closer, aiming to poke the dog in the side... assuming that it was real, that is, and also assuming that it would not snap at him... though it wasn’t as if that would be anything new either. A white German Sheppard though, now that much was definitely odd, didn’t see those around... ever.
Clearly, Beast Boy had not been the only one noticing strange fur... er... skin colors. Although his coloring was probably a bit more easily pointed out as something out of the ordinary. “Well yeah, actually...” Caleb nodded, shoving his hands into the pockets of his sweatshirt. “The virus altered my dna, so... the green isn’t really much of a choice,” one hand moved away from its pocket, rising to scratch the side of his head in thought. “It’s sort of a long story...”
