Lloyd floated in the void of space, his body protected from the deadly vacuum thanks to the energy from his ring. The waves of sunlight washed over him as he watched the Earth below. Where would he go today? There was trouble everywhere and he was in charge of the entirety of Sector 2814. Lloyd sighed. This was a really big pain.
He eventually decided to just drop straight down, his forcefield protecting him once again, this time from the heat of reentry. To his pleasant surprise, he appeared over San Francisco. He might just take a little mini-vacation while he was here and see the sights. The Green Lantern created a bluetooth from energy and tuned it in to the local police channel. It didn't take long for him to find a situation that required his assistance. An accident on the Golden Gate Bridge had resulted in some twenty car pile up.
Lloyd turned towards the bay and fired off, the Ion entity within him boosting his speed to around 500 mph. Not his fastest, but that wasn't really required. He arrived in seconds, landing gently on the twisted asphalt. The cars were piled one atop another. Some were on fire. That wouldn't do. He floated above the wreck and reached out with both hands, limbs of green energy forming from his own. He quickly went to work seperating each car and putting out the flames.
He stopped mid-process. One car near the middle had been warped beyond recovery. A young woman was trapped in the metal, pinned against the car seat. He couldn't move her without furthering her injuries. He'd have to be more methodical.
As he dropped down closer the authorities began to arrive, ambulances, fire trucks, cops, the whole nine yards. Lloyd ignored all that and formed a saw of energy and began to cut through the twisted frame surrounding the woman. This would take a while.

Static was not sure why, but he had been drawn towards San Francisco for the last few weeks, which was good because it was in serious need of super hero assistance. This was very apparent by the fact that he had personally prevented two robberies, four car wrecks, and a kid falling out of a window. It was getting pretty hectic in this West Coast city, which meant that it was going to be a busy day for him.
Using his electromagnetic powers to tap into the police broadband, Virgil picked up reports of a hero near the Golden Gate Bridge, which meant that he should head over there pronto. He hopped on his disc and flew over the city in search of the wreck that was being taken care of. As he passed over the streets of San Francisco, Static noted that some electronic stores had broken display windows, which made him want to stop but he saw a few police cruisers in route so he continued onward to the bridge.
Arriving on the scene, Static noted that the hero was a lantern who was currently cutting his way into a car to get a woman out. Seeing that he had that situation handled, the high voltage hero decided to finish up by getting the rest of the people out of their vehicles by wrapping the doors in electromagnetic energy and pulling them off. He then proceeded to use the doors as stretchers to lift people over to medical help. Once he made sure everyone was receiving some help, Static landed beside the Green Lantern to see how the guy was doing.
“Do require any assistance, Mr. Lantern?” It was supposed to lighten the mood by giving the green hero a title of endearment, while not ignoring the seriousness of the situation in any way. He wondered if this Lantern was a native to Earth like the previous Green Lanterns that Static had met were. Of course, Virgil assumed the guy was human just because the guy seemed human, but he had mistaken an alien person for human before and vice versa. It had been a pretty embarrassing moment in his life, but he eventually got over it. “My name is Static by the way.”

Lloyd had managed to cut through most of the garbled frame when the ring started to say, "WARNING: sizeable electromagnetic field approaching. Caution is advised."
Where the hell was the mute button? was what Lloyd might have thought, but the field itself did raise some concern. He looked up to see a middle-aged African man floating down dressed in blue and supported by a metal disk of some sort. His garb was fluttering in the wind as white bolts of electricity radiated from him and his outfit. It was Static, one of the few heroes to survive the Catastrophe. Lloyd had grown up with Static on the TV. He was an icon.
"It's an honor to meet you Static. I'm L- I mean the Green Lantern." That was close. Lloyd need to get used to not telling people his real name. He might lose his day job. "It'd be great if you helped. I have to get this woman out. We should check if there are any other people trapped."
On that note, Lloyd checked in with the police chatter. It had gone silent, save for one robotic toned voice. "...our demands have not been met and these are the consequences. Turn your attention to the Golden Gate Bridge where traffic has come to a standstill, stranding hundreds of drivers. We have launched a missile towards the bridge. You had a chance to prevent this. Let us hope that you shall think twice in the future."
Oh shit. A missile? Obviously this accident had been some sort of sabotage, the staging ground for a major terrorist attack. Lloyd turned to Static. "We have a bigger problem."

The way in which the man responded to his arrival made it apparent to Static that this Green Lantern was definitely from this planet and was old enough to know who he was. It at least made the whole idea of working together easier. ]“It is nice to meet you as well, and if you don’t mind checking on the other vehicles then I can get this woman out with a trick that I learned to do a decade or so ago.”
It seemed that the man’s attention went somewhere else, so Static proceeded with his technique by placing his hand on the metal and sending a wave of electromagnetic energy that allowed him to move the pieces of metal that the Lantern had pretty much separated. He then proceeded to magnetically move the pieces of metal away from the woman, which just left her there in her car seat. Static lifted the woman over to the nearest medical vehicle without moving from where he was standing.
The guy had said something about having a bigger problem, which made Static wonder what exactly could be bigger than a pile up on the Golden Gate Bridge. Now that he thought about it, Virgil could think of many things that could be considerably bigger than a simple car wreck like a gigantic monster attacking New York City or an invasion of an alien race. These thoughts made him worry that the planet was not as well protected as it had once been.
“How much bigger are we talking her? Like the Statue of Liberty is beginning to attack New York big or there is an incoming semi with a cargo of unstable chemicals?”

Lloyd looked at Static. "Better than the first and worse than the latter. A terrorist group has fired a missile and it's headed right for us. If it hits it'll be bad."
A missile, a missile...what type? How far? Ordinance? Trajectory? A hundred questions ran through his head. Worse case scenario, the terrorists had hijacked a silo at Camp Pendleton. Then they'd be in trouble.
The Green Lantern looked at Static. "We need to get these people off the bridge. I'm going to see if I can intercept the missile. I should be able to disarm it. Catch up when you can."
Lloyd shot up into the air and held out his ring. A pale green light shined out, scanning the distant skies. A bead of cold sweat ran down his forehead as each precious second passed. Lloyd didn't want to block a missile. Considering the size of the threat, the explosion might just blow right through a shield and still damage the bridge.
"Object approaching."
Time to shine, pun intended. Lloyd held out his ring and rocketed off into the distance. It took him a full minute of top speed to reach the missile, plus a sudden U-turn so he was flying right next to it. As he matched the speed, he read the side of the weapon:
S.T.A.R. Labs ZX-57
Uh-oh. Lloyd recognized the missile. This was a problem. "Static better get here fast."

There were not many things that could make Static wish that the Man of Steel were still around, and a missile headed straight for this particular bridge was definitely one of them. He wondered exactly how they were going to stop the missile.
Apparently, Static was in charge of evacuating the people that were on the bridge while the Emerald Champion went off to disarm the missile that was coming at them. He wasn’t sure who got the short end of the stick in the situation, which somehow made the situation s even direr in his mind. “Just be careful. Don’t try to do anything if you are unsure of whether it will work.”
With the way that the Green Lantern had sped off, Static was unsure if his words had gotten to the young man’s ears, but there was no time to worry about that with all the people he needed to save. “Please remain calm and in your vehicles! I am going to begin removing vehicles from the center of the bridge first, so everyone who is on the outer portions begin exiting the bridge!”
Static was not only shouting this, but using his powers to transmit his voice over the local radio stations via a cop’s radio that he picked up. He began picking up a few cars at a time and transporting them off the bridge, and when he found a nice clear spot Virgil placed them down. Even though it was a hard task, Static forced himself to work at a faster pace in order to get everyone to safety.
“That seems to be everyone. Now to go and check on my green ally.” Static proceeded at his top speed in the direction that he had seen Green Lantern fly off in. Hopefully he wouldn’t meet or pass the missile because he wasn’t sure that he was going to be able to match the speed of a missile. “Static to GL. Come in GL. Hopefully, you have a plan for stopping the missile because I am not sure if this one will be effected by an EMP.”

The ZX-57, Lloyd remembered the model. A particularly nasty one if he recalled properly. Explosive power near half a tactical nuke, immune to EMP, capable of out-manuevering a fighter jet, incredible durable, and one more feature that made this one nasty-bugger, especially for meta-humans. The missile was equipped with a Tampering Trigger. If the missile was slowed by any significant factor or diverted off it's original flight plan then it would detonate. So if Lloyd stopped the missile here he'd blow himself up.
Lloyd perked up when he heard Static calling for him. He looked at his ring. "How long until the missile reaches the bridge?"
"Two minutes and 37 seconds."
Long enough. "Static, this is Green Lantern. I've identified the model of the missile. No time to explain. I need you to get here and zap the missile with as much electricity as you can."
The missile's inner workings might be resistant to EMP, but the satellite connection was vulnerable. Cutting it off was probably impossible, but if Static shocked the missile, then the connection woud be delayed, allowing Lloyd a brief window to tamper with it.
"Window calculated. With nominal voltage there will be a three second window."
Three seconds? Not bad. "Power Level?"
"Power is at 98.75%, maximum power for this velocity."
Well, everything was as good as it was gonna get. All he had to do was wait for Static.

The reply that he received from Green Lantern made Static note a few things about his new found ally. First, the guy had to have worked in or with the military if he was able because Static was almost one hundred percent positive that no information on current missiles were not known to the normal public. Second, Green Lantern was probably going to avoid explaining how he knew the what model the missile was when there was enough time, so Static was going to have to just trust that the man knew his stuff.
He guessed a response was in order to keep the other hero from worrying that something might have happened to the super-charged hero. “Alright, one extremely power blast of electricity coming up.” Of course, this was going to leave him extremely exhausted, so he was going to have to find something to recharge him or call it a day.
Static began concentrating the majority of the power within his body to his fists, while trying to line his flight path up with that of the incoming projectile. His eyes caught a glimpse of something green coming his way in the distance that was flying beside something that had a sort of fiery end.
“Target sort of locked and fire.” He was of course muttering this to himself for personal dramatic effect. He launched the blast of electricity straight at the other target with the hope that it would accomplish the task that Green Lantern had initially wanted.
